Shed Internal Fit-Out started

In the 33 degrees heat, Garrie started working on the shed internal fit-out. The photos show the frame of the wall which divides the shed into living/studio and garage areas.

House build started

It's only the second day for our builder, and the house footing trenches are more than 50% done. How do they do things so fast?
Excavation of the rainwater tank hole has also started; and there are trenches everywhere for the electrical and data cables. It's all happening!

Cables and Conduits

4x180 meters of cables and conduits, all laid out. Pity the trench digging machine was useless ...

Shed Progress

It has been over four weeks since my last blog post.  Some people have asked whether there has been any progress.  Well, yes, most of the shed frame was up by 10th November.  It looks HUGE!

Today, 21st November, it looks like this:

Then there was slab

Let me begin with lesson number 1 - Do not dig footing trenches the day before a terrential downpour.

Unless of course, you have a pump ...

Two hours after pumping ...

Before concrete pour ...

After concrete pour ...

Progress on Site Cut

It's amazing what an excavator can do in a few days.  The shed and house site is levelled.  The gum trees are gone.  And the rain came ...

Next step - surveyors to peg the house & shed corners ...

Sod Turned

Yes it's official!  Today we turned the sod.

What you can see in the pictures below is the area where the shed/guestroom will be.  Top soil taken off.  Site cutting tomorrow ...  I have a huge grin on my face right now. :-)

Spring has Sprung and Happy Fathers Day

Spring has sprung.  Garrie is soldiering on with his dunny building project, which has progressed very nicely.

Today is Fathers Day.  But that doesn't mean Garrie was contented with Eggs Benedict for breakfast and relaxing all day.  Absolutely not.  Instead, He applied his geometry skills to mark out the site cut area!  Let's hope he got it right ....

We are so excited by the prospect of a "sod turning" ceremony/celebration, washed with a bottle of fine champagne, in the next couple of weeks ...

Here is a picture of the almost completed dunny and a couple of pictures of perfect spring day at Royalla.

Outback Dunny Project

Well, not that much has happened since the last post.  The driveway is a little bit longer, but not by much.

Garrie is all excited with his little project to build an outback style dunny ...  Hopefully, the next post will be a picture of the finished product.

PS: for those who don't speak Australian, a dunny is a toilet.

While Garrie was busy building the dunny, the kids were enjoying a bit of rowing in the dam.

It's begun!

Almost two years after discovering the block in August 2010, agonising over house design, and jumping through hoops to obtain approval from council, construction of our new home has finally begun with the driveway.  Very exciting!

The end product, i.e. the house, should look something like this:
